The sunny weather continued for the the first part of September and our first outing was to Gunthorpe Bridge on the River Trent. We were to meet a group of ramblers at a restaurant at the start of the walk. Our friends Norman and Marlene had invited us to join them.
Unfortunately to add to Nottingham's already congested traffic a lorry shed its load of animal parts on to the A52 at a major round-a-bout. This meant that we were late arriving at the start of the walk. We met a couple who were having a less exhausting saunter. They told us that the walking group had already left and in which direction.

Once into the field we could see the group in the distance. With determination we set off after them. Occasionally we thought we were catching up but this was probably an optical illusion. Eventually they stopped for a break and we caught up. Now we were to find out why we could not catch up. Keeping up was itself a challenge.

At the end of the walk we drank and talked in the pub then Irene and I had our sandwiches by the river before returning home.
The next day I had an opportunity to assemble and photograph the footbridge that Sally had bought me for the railway. The footbridge has now been adapted and relocated and look perfect in it new, permanent position.

On Monday we held another 'Tea a Talk' at Leicester House. Rev. David Mansfield spoke on the subject of 'Sowing and Reaping'.
On Wednesday 11th our friends Paul and Mary accompanied us on a walk along the towpath at Cossall.

This ended the first half of our September activities. Part two of September was somewhat different.
